We’re always looking to support the next generation of digital marketing talent. That’s why we offer work experience placements throughout the year, providing an opportunity to shadow our team and find out more about the world of digital marketing.

Lucy Hargraves joined us for a week, and during her time, she got involved with our Paid Media, SEO, and Content teams. Here’s what she learned during her week with us.

Lucy’s week

I’ve really enjoyed my week at Loom Digital. The team has been incredibly welcoming, friendly, and generous with their time and knowledge.

Before this week, I had limited experience in marketing. However, after spending time with the Loom Digital team, I now feel much more confident in my understanding of SEO and the differences between paid and organic social media. I’ve also developed a more detailed insight into copywriting.

Across all areas of digital marketing, I found learning about keywords particularly valuable. It quickly became clear just how important they are across every aspect of digital media- something I hadn’t learnt in my university course. This is definitely something I’ll take forward into my own future work.

I also really enjoyed exploring specific tools like Later for scheduling social media posts- another useful takeaway I can apply going forward. Learning about platforms such as Google Analytics and Screaming Frog gave me a great insight into how data and performance are tracked and analysed in real-world campaigns.

In addition to the technical side, I really enjoyed the creative aspects of my experience, such as learning how companies are beginning to integrate AI into their marketing strategies. I particularly enjoyed exploring new updates and using them to create a campaign idea for a brand. Using Canva to design social media graphics for a client was another highlight.

Throughout the week, I applied what I was learning to a real client that Loom Digital currently works with. I even had the opportunity to sit in on a meeting with them, which I found incredibly interesting and insightful.

Overall, I’ve learned that working at a digital agency means getting involved in a wide range of tasks for lots of different types of clients. There’s also a strong collaborative environment at Loom, which makes it a genuinely enjoyable and inspiring place to learn and work.
