A week of work experience in digital marketing

The world of digital marketing is an exciting one and we’re always happy to share our insights with others. So when Jazmine reached out to us about work experience, we arranged a jam-packed week with the aim of introducing her to the industry and the work we do here at Loom.

Part of that week involved writing the below blog documenting her experience. Have a read to see what else she got up to.

My week of work experience at Loom

When I first started my placement at Loom, I felt a mix of nerves and excitement about my upcoming week. But I was put at ease as soon as I stepped through the door. I was introduced to the team who were friendly, helpful and so fun to be around.

For a long time I’ve had a strong passion for digital marketing, and some general surface-level knowledge about the marketing world itself. After spending a week with the team at Loom, I’ve gained such widespread knowledge and understanding in so many areas of the industry that I hadn’t even considered before. I met some incredible members of the team, who made me feel like I was an employee myself and taught me so much about PPC and paid social, SEO and content creation.

I got in touch with Vicky, and I spent my first day with her learning lots about the general industry, and then sat in on a knowledge share with some other members of the team. I then completed some competitive research, which was new to me but Vicky was so supportive and helped me with anything I was stuck with.

Over the next two days, I was introduced into the eye opening world of PPC and Paid Social with Tamas and Harry, who were so lovely to work with. I started with no idea about the topic and was taught so many invaluable lessons from them, such as how to set up and create effective ad campaigns, keyword research and writing ad copy. I also had the opportunity to understand how relevant ad copies and creatives on social media platforms can be leveraged to reach, engage and target specific demographics. This also included creating my own ads for a company of my choice and getting some insight into the templates commonly used.

I also learned about ways to improve websites for optimisation and was tasked with thinking about changes I would make if I was working for them myself. I was able to sit in on a client call where I saw exactly how real life strategies and approaches are adapted to find the perfect way forward for different businesses. It was my favourite part of the week and made me reconsider my original pathway that I wanted to take in digital marketing as a whole.

I was then introduced to SEO by Tegan, who was so kind and made me feel completely at home throughout the entire day. I had the opportunity to create my own pitch for a company and delved into keyword research, on-page optimisation and link building strategies to enhance a website’s visibility in search engine results.

I then got to sit down with Loom’s content creator Chloe, who showed me what her job consisted of day to day – specifically how she creates blogs and the amount of work that goes into it. I also sat in on another call with a client and watched how Tegan and Chloe worked together to get the best outcomes for the companies they manage.

Overall, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience at Loom. The company truly exceeded all of my expectations and the work ethic is so relaxed and stress free. Instead of coming into a standard office job, you are surrounded by the best people and it feels more like hanging out with your pals. The week enhanced my skill set and confirmed my desire to pursue a career in this field. I’m immensely grateful for this opportunity to work with such a lovely, talented team and gain so much insight that will undoubtedly help shape my future career.
