We’re always eager to bring new faces and fresh ideas into the Loom office – whether its team members, clients or, in this case, work experience students.

The opportunity to share our knowledge and passion for digital marketing is one of the most exciting parts of being an agency. So, when GCSE student Nuri asked to complete his work experience with Loom, we were excited to invite him along for a week in the office.

As part of his work experience, Nuri wrote a short account of his time working alongside the Loom team, what he learned and what he will take into the rest of his studies. Let’s take a look at how he got on…

Nuri’s work experience at Loom Digital

During my time at Loom I conducted a competitor research to understand if there were any opportunities that my chosen website was missing based on what else was out there. When I arrived at the office, the staff were very welcoming; they would always happily answer my questions when I needed help and were a very supportive team.

I found the idea of how Google crawls and indexes content to be interesting – such as the fact that there is a crawl budget for each website, so overloading your website with lots of thin pages can actually cause issues getting your key pages crawl.

Another task was to draft web pages. I gave suggestions on how the website could be improved with things like filters, more engaging page animations and a new page layout. I also suggested trending icons, price range filters, more modern or engaging colour scheme, themes to match the specific clients, more relevant FAQs, image and section positioning, awards/business partner display and a section for explaining why their company is the best.

One other thing that I did was doing social media concepts for posts that can promote Loom and website to businesses that would use their services. I was tasked with writing and making ideas for posts on what their website did well and what posts engage for the right audiences – Instagram has more fun posts while LinkedIn has longer and more formal posts.

The most interesting thing I learned was about Search Engine Optimisation (improving a website so it is visible in Google) and using a tool called Semrush which shows in-depth detail about a website. For example, the hidden meta titles and descriptions that only the search engine will look at, it is amazing that even small things like this actually drastically affect search engine results placings. I also used the tool to fix broken and error links which will make the website more appealing to Google. I learnt that companies like Loom do Search Engine Optimisations in order to improve visibility of their clients’ websites in search results.

Before I went to the work experience I did not know anything about digital marketing, but at the end of the week I’d learned a lot of marketing terms that I never knew and what it is like to be a digital marketer. Their office and work environment was great. They also have all the pro AI models. I got to join in on their meetings so I could really see what it is like as a digital marketer. A good part about their work place is that they have very flexible working times and everyone is always friendly and relaxed.

My favourite thing about work experience at Loom Digital is that it is not as formal and stressful as you may think for an office. I am sure I will remember my time here at Loom. I learned a lot about digital marketing and I would definitely recommend it to other people in the future.
